CHOMSKY, American Power and the New Mandarins.
|
CHOMSKY, Noam. American Power and the New Mandarins. NY: Pantheon, 1969. Octavo, 404pp. First edition of Chomsky's first major collection of political writings, still one of the most morally compelling and eloquent works in what is now a substantial corpus. Includes the most famous of all his political essays, "The Responsibility of Intellectuals," originally published in The New York Review of Books. Chomsky's subsequent analyses of American government and media together form "this century's most sustained and trenchant exposé of the manner in which the mass media and intellectuals in the United States have abandoned their responsibility as seekers after truth and instead have become purveyors of the state's [and business community's] ideological perspective" (Alexander George, in Fox and Kloppenberg, A Companion to American Thought). Inscribed by Chomsky on the title page. Some foxin to edges, spotted foxing to the outer margins of the first few pages, otherwise more than very good, in a very good dust jacket, some sunning to spine and edges, price unclipped.
