[DE MAN, Beginnings: Intention and Method.
|
[DE MAN, Paul] [HILLIS MILLER, J.] SAID, Edward. Beginnings: Intention and Method. NY: Basic, 1975. Octavo, 414 pp. First edition. Very good in like dust jacket, slightly scuffed and edgeworn. An interesting copy of the second book published by the highly influential author of Orientalism, from the library of Paul de Man and with his hand-written notes in the text, but bearing J. Hillis Miller's ownership signature to the front blank. Hillis Miller is an important contemporary literary critic and was a colleague of De Man's at Yale, as a fellow member of the so-called Yale school of deconstruction. One imagines that the present book managed to migrate from Hillis Miller's possession to De Man's during this time of proximity.
