Tuttle, Richard. One Voice in Four Parts. Poestenkill, New York, Kaldewey Press, 1999. Folio (30 x 44cm). [16] pp. “ I want to make a book as theater; I want to explore and explode the genre. ” Thus Richard Tuttle, guest impresario of this Poestenkill “happening” featuring the antics of director Chen Shi-Zheng. Access to Anne Waldman’s text, “Putting Makeup on Empty Space,” the ostensible inspiration for the event / documentation / book, is rendered all but illegible, held captive within the confines of the pale of photographic documentation of Shi-Zheng’s performance, and Tuttle’s physical contribution consists in “specially coloring” the red borders of the enclosure in which the text is held. His costume elements for Shi-Zheng’s performance are documented in the stills. [Edition Kaldewey No. 29].
